10) MLB Power Rankings: Texas Rangers should resolve to bump someone from the postseason

The Texas Rangers feel like a playoff team this year. The big question is, who are they bumping off? Everyone who made the playoffs last year in the American League should contend this year, too. It won’t be easy for the Rangers to improve enough to get back to the postseason. They’re going to need to beat up on the Los Angeles Angels and Seattle Mariners a ton.

9) MLB Power Rankings: Seattle Mariners should resolve to win a second round

The Seattle Mariners have improved, but maybe not enough to go any further than they did in last year’s postseason. Once they played the Houston Astros, time was up. Their New Year’s Resolution is to make it to the ALCS. This is one of the toughest goals in this week’s MLB Power Rankings. Have faith Jerry Dipoto will do what it takes at the trade deadline to make the team better.

8) MLB Power Rankings: New York Mets should resoleve to not let the Atlanta Braves pass them again

For two straight seasons, the New York Mets held first place in the National League East for longer than any other team. In two straight seasons, the Atlanta Braves passed them late. It came very near the end of the 2022 run. The Mets seemed to run out of gas while the year prior they overachieved and had the Braves close-by. If New York can get a big lead early again this year, they need to keep it or at least win it back.

7) MLB Power Rankings: Philadelphia Phillies should resolve to survive without Bryce Harper

Surviving the absence of Bryce Harper will be a challenge for the Philadelphia Phillies. They stepped up and made it through without him for a chunk of last year. They have the benefit of knowing he’ll be on the IL to start this year. Proper planning can allow the Phillies to make the right roster decisions to replace his offense. Harper is one of the most important players in the league. He is irreplaceable but some tape on the problem can mask it long enough.

6) MLB Power Rankings: Toronto Blue Jays should resoleve to extend Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. could really use an extension. Every time a big free agent signs a deal, it’s stars like him who lick their chops. The Toronto Blue Jays are devoted to winning now and for the long-term. A massive extension with Guerrero can secure them one of the most dynamic hitters in baseball for longer than his current team control allows. Do it now before $400 million players are a norm.
