Top 5 individual offensive performances of the NBA season so far
1. Donovan Mitchell
On the second day of the new year, Donovan Mitchell had the best performance of the season, scoring 71 points in a game against the Chicago Bulls. While he did need overtime to get to that total, he was able to have his best game as a Cavalier, joining an exclusive club of players who have been able to score 70+ points.
Only seven players in the history of the NBA have been able to score at least 70 points (Kobe Bryant, Wilt Chamberlin, David Robinson, Devin Booker, and David Thompson). Mitchell was able to score these points on a very efficient 64 percent from the field.
While he didn’t shoot badly for the entire game, he scored 13 of his 71 points in OT. Technically, that makes comparing the rest of them a little bit unfair as some of the other players on this list didn’t have OT pad their point totals. Still, the Cavs were down by seven with five minutes left in the fourth, so that point is a bit moot because they needed Mitchell to carry them to a victory.
For what was just a regular season game, Mitchell ended up with a performance that will be remembered forever.
