New England Patriots. 2. player. 47. Scouting Report. East. Pick Analysis. AFC

Maybe Quentin Johnston ends New England Patriots’ bad luck at wide receiver?

Narrowly missing the AFC playoffs, the New England Patriots will be picking at No. 14. While next season is critical in Mac Jones’ growth and development as a pro quarterback, he probably needs some help in the receiving corps. Although drafting wide receivers has not been the Patriots’ cup of tea, Johnston feels like one of those players who is not going to bust at the next level one bit.

It may be a tough first year for him in New England, but expect the Patriots to actually hire a real offensive coordinator this offseason. Bill Belichick might be the greatest head coach of all time, but four years in a row without winning a playoff game is a sign that the best years are firmly behind this franchise. In the meantime, go get a receiver who can help get the most out of Jones.

Given that Jones had a sensational last season at Alabama and a promising rookie year with the Patriots, New England clearly has something to work with under center. What is important is to see if he can really be the guy long-term for them. After his third season in the league, the former No. 15 overall pick will be up for the fifth-year option. Johnston may help Jones get that fifth year.

The best way to overcome fear is to have faith, as the Patriots must embrace that at wide receiver.
