Ranking NFL quarterbacks based on 2022: 28. Matthew Stafford, Rams

This season did not go as planned for the reigning Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams. Matthew Stafford played in just nine games before going on injured reserve due to a neck injury and concussion.

Stafford’s 2022 season saw him finish with 2,087 yards, 10 touchdowns and eight interceptions. In the games he did play, Stafford did not look like himself. He didn’t look right. There was absolutely no way he was 100 percent.

But, as he’s always done, Stafford played as much as he possibly could through discomfort and pain. That, for one, is something you can never question about Stafford. His toughness has always been top-notch.

Baker Mayfield deserves a little credit for coming in and learning the playbook on the fly, performing pretty well, and looking like a guy Sean McVay could resurrect, so to speak. But, Mayfield won’t be the starter next year if he returns to Los Angeles — at least not if the longtime veteran has anything to say about it.

Despite rumors, Stafford did announce that he has no plans to retire, which should be music to Rams fans’ ears. If he comes back healthy for the 2023 season, along with Cooper Kupp, then this team will always have the opportunity to put points on the board.
