Braves rumors: Trade Eddie Rosario or Orlando Arcia

Both of these players are valuable in their own right, if only because of a lack of depth. Eddie Rosario feels like the more likely trade target given the Braves acquired some outfield depth this offseason, albeit in limited form such as Eli White and Jordan Luplow. Rosario is not above replacement level at the plate, which could make Atlanta want an upgrade for their everyday left fielder.

Trading Rosario alone wouldn’t give Atlanta much of a return, but he could be part of a larger package to acquire a more stable everyday presence at the corner outfield spots.

As for Orlando Arcia, he is a necessary utility infielder at the moment. Vaughn Grissom will likely take over as the everyday shortstop now that Dansby Swanson is gone. Grissom, however, is only 21 years old. He showed a surprising amount of maturity and success last year, and FanGraphs thinks he could have a better offensive season than Swanson this year. Defensively, however, he still has a lot to learn, which is where Arcia comes in.

If Atlanta opts for a more stable defensive presence at short, and wants to be able to give Grissom rest on a weekly basis, then trading Arcia is not in their best interest unless they have a backup plan. As a player who can play three or more positions, though, he does have value on the trade market.
