Cardinals: Dakota Hudson will be part of a trade package

Last season, manager Oli Marmol seemed frustrated with Hudson most of the season. That frustration led to the pitcher’s demotion to Memphis. While he eventually returned to St. Louis, he was on a short leash. That leash will be back this season.

At the Winter Warm-up, Hudson noted some productive conversations with the team’s new pitching coach, Dusty Blake.

Hudson adapting to and implementing his understanding of analytics could be incredibly beneficial. It often seemed that Hudson was throwing without that understanding, hence the frustration for Marmol.

Hudson will be given that shot to prove himself. Adam Wainwright, Miles Mikolas, Jordan Montgomery, and Jack Flaherty’s rotation spots are seemingly set with that final spot in play with competition between Hudson, Steven Matz, coming back from a knee injury, Andre Pallante, and Matthew Liberatore.

Hudson and the Cardinals did avoid arbitration, agreeing to a $2,65 million deal for 2023.
