Nolan Gorman will be a trade piece

The Cardinals had such high expectations for Gorman going into the 2022 season. The youngster’s tremendous spring in Memphis forced the Cardinals to bring him up. He was impressive but opposing pitchers soon caught on, and Gorman never really adapted, which led to the Cardinals demoting him back to Memphis before he returned before the playoffs.

Expectations remain high, but they are equally high for 2022 Gold Glove-winning super-utility man Brendan Donovan and shortstop Tommy Edman, a 2021 Gold Glove winner at second base. Could Gorman earn the second base position, stealing it away from Donovan? Or could he be the left-handed designated hitter for the club?

Gorman discussed his offseason work with media members at the Winter Warm-up.

Because he is such a highly touted prospect, Gorman will get all the chances to earn his spot on the club. It would be awesome for him to exceed the expectations from last season and has a steady role he keeps all season. It may be time to move him to get more pitching or a lefty bat if he can’t.
