3 reasons Daniel Jones should be the Giants’ QB of the future, No. 2: Replacement options this offseason aren’t great

The Giants entered the 2022 league year with a new regime, consisting of head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen, both of whom arrived from the Buffalo Bills. Considering this was their first year with the team, and the fact that Jones had a rollercoaster first three seasons, they didn’t exercise his fifth-year option. That meant he would become a free agent at the end of the 2022 campaign.

Looking at the year he’s had, keeping Jones is a must for the Giants. Looking at where the Giants are, there aren’t any better options to explore this offseason.

Considering that the Giants made it to the Divisional Round, they will be picking late in the first round of the NFL Draft, so they won’t be in the running for a Bryce Young or C.J. Stroud. In all likelihood, both prospects will be gone within the first five picks.

Let’s look at the other options available.

Derek Carr isn’t exactly going to put the Giants more over the edge than Jones. Geno Smith is likely staying with the Seattle Seahawks. New York isn’t in a feasible situation to go after Tom Brady, who will be 46 years old in the 2023 season. Lamar Jackson may be going back to the Baltimore Ravens, but he has had injury issues the past two years.

Keeping Jones is perhaps the best move for the Giants at quarterback. They have the cap space to spend, and they will likely reward him with a pretty lucrative contract.
