The NFL announced which teams will be playing in their five international games for the 2023 season. These two teams will play in Germany next season.

The NFL has held international regular season games since 2007, first starting in London. Then in 2016, the NFL began holding games in Mexico. But this season, the league held its debut game in Germany, where the Tampa Bay Buccaneers faced the Seattle Seahawks in Allianz Arena, home of soccer club Bayern Munich.

After the successful game in Munich, the NFL announced on Thursday that they will be returning to Germany for two regular-season games in 2023. The exact dates and opponents have yet to be revealed, but we do know which two teams will be the home teams in their respective matchups.

Which NFL teams will play in Germany in 2023

The two home teams in the designated regular season games in Germany in 2023 will be the Kansas City Chiefs and New England Patriots.

Both the Chiefs and Patriots are part of the league’s International Home Marketing Area (IHMA) program, which the NFL says, “sees teams secure international marketing rights in countries beyond the US, with both sides having been awarded rights in Germany.”

The Chiefs have been a consistent Super Bowl contender ever since Patrick Mahomes took over as starting quarterback in 2018. They will look to make the Super Bowl for the third time in four years this playoff run, where they take on the Jacksonville Jaguars in the Divisional Round.

Meanwhile, the Patriots are coming off of another season in which they missed out on a postseason berth ever since Tom Brady left after the 2019 campaign. This season, New England lost their regular-season finale against the Buffalo Bills to fall to 8-9 and miss out on the final Wild Card berth in the AFC.

Further details will be revealed down the line, including where the Chiefs and Patriots will play, and who their opponents will be.
