2) Why Chadwick Tromp doesn’t deserve a spot on the Braves 40-man roster

It’s completely understandable why Chadwick Tromp is on the Braves 40-man roster. He is the third-string catcher who will park himself in Triple-A until needed. Saying he actually deserves a roster spot is different from understanding it.

Tromp has been in a similar role since 2020. Whether he was with the San Francisco Giants or now with the Braves, getting buried on the depth chart and only called upon when needed has been his modus operandi.

Tromp fits the mold of a future journeyman catcher if he ever finds himself earning a more permanent role in the big leagues. He did have a pair of doubles and 3 RBI in his one game for the Braves last season. Considering he batted .253/.297/.442 in Triple-A in far more chances, it’s unlikely going to be a trend.

The role of third-string catcher might be in jeopardy this season for Tromp. The club added Joe Hudson, a 31-year-old catcher, to help compete. Hudson is not on the 40-man roster but could eventually become a more favorable option depending on how the two perform down on the farm.

For Tromp to earn his place on the 40-man roster, he’ll have to prove he is a valuable enough asset. He’s not quite there yet closer than some of the others on this list.
