16. Scouting Report. S. Jordan Poyer. player. Pick Analysis. Buffalo Bills. 2.

Buffalo is in a position where they could possibly lose out on one of their key pieces of the secondary. Jordan Poyer is entering free agency following his six years with the AFC East team. This will hurt for Buffalo, as Poyer is one of the top safeties available alongside Jessie Bates of the Cincinnati Bengals.

This season, Poyer played in 12 games after dealing with foot and elbow injuries. Not to mention that he played through a torn meniscus in his knee. Despite the injuries, Poyer had a very good season and is heading to the Pro Bowl for the first time in his career.

In his 12 appearances in the regular-season, Poyer recorded 63 combined tackles, eight passes defensed, four interceptions, and four tackles for loss. In coverage, Poyer allowed 21 completions for 146 yards and two touchdowns on 31 targets, per Pro Football Reference.

Bills best replacement options for Jordan Poyer

  • Antonio Johnson (NFL Draft)

It’s entirely possible that the Bills and Poyer agree to terms on a new deal. However, they have to prepare for the chance that another team gives him a lucrative deal.

When looking at free agency options, the good players are going to be costly. The best bet is to find one of the top safeties in the NFL Draft. Not only do they have to brace for a Poyer exit, but also a Micah Hyde exit as well. Antonio Johnson should be available when Buffalo is on the clock. Brian Branch, the top safety prospect, will likely be off the board by then.
