3 Giants who won’t be back next year and best options to replace them

Giants need to upgrade the cornerback depth and Fabian Moreau isn’t the guy
Schoen had to make a tough choice this past offseason in regard to freeing up cap space. That turned out to be top cornerback James Bradberry, who was easily one of the team’s best at the position in recent memory. It pained them even more that he went to the rival Eagles, and recorded an interception in their Divisional Round game.
The Giants’ depth chart was led by Adoree’ Jackson, who missed time late in the season due to an MCL sprain. The cornerbacks on the roster were far from deep, and it saw veteran Fabian Moreau thrust into the starter’s position.
In his first season with the Giants, Moreau recorded 66 combined tackles and 10 passes defensed. In coverage, Moreau surrendered 48 receptions for 553 yards and five touchdowns on 81 targets. Quarterbacks held a quarterback rating of 100.5 when targeting Moreau, per Pro Football Reference.
Moreau is an unrestricted free agent. Simply put, the Giants need to add a No. 2 cornerback desperately this offseason.
Giants best replacements for Fabian Moreau
- Cameron Sutton (Free Agency)
- Marcus Peters (Free Agency)
- Christian Gonzalez (NFL Draft)
As much as it would be nice for the team to reunite with James Bradberry, it feels like there are hard feelings. So, despite him being a top-tier corner in free agency, he won’t be an option for the Giants.
Cameron Sutton had a great 2022 season, as he allowed just 35 receptions on 73 targets while playing with the Steelers. The Giants need a shutdown corner like that. Another option is Marcus Peters, who knows Don “Wink” Martindale’s defense. There’s also the NFL Draft, which is loaded with cornerback depth. There will be plenty of fluctuations throughout the pre-draft process, so we’ll put Christian Gonzalez is as of now. But if one of the top corners is available in the first round, the Giants should consider selecting them.
