The Kenny Golladay contract has been a disaster for the Giants

This is probably the most likely departure on the Giants this upcoming offseason.

Kenny Golladay was supposed to help take New York’s offense over the edge, giving them a dominant pass-catcher on the outside and in the red zone. Instead, Golladay may very well go down as one of the franchise’s biggest busts in free agency.

Golladay recorded 43 receptions for 602 yards and one touchdown on 93 targets in his two seasons with the team. That touchdown came in Week 18 of this season, just for reference.

The Giants have an out after this season, as they can cut him from his four-year, $72 million deal. Ideally, that would have to be after June 1, as they could save $13.5 million in cap space in 2023, but will incur $7.9 million in dead cap in 2023 and $6.8 million in 2024, per Spotrac.

So, how do they replace Golladay? Considering his production through the first two years, it would be relatively easy.

Giants best replacement options for Kenny Golladay

  • Quentin Johnston (NFL Draft)
  • Jordan Addison (NFL Draft)
  • Jaxon Smith-NJigba (NFL Draft)

The wide receiver class in free agency is really weak this offseason. While there could be names available like DeAndre Hopkins and Brandin Cooks, it would be detrimental for Schoen to surrender draft capital on veteran wide receivers who are going to be 30 years old next season.

New York’s best options to replace Golladay are in the NFL Draft. They will need to see how the draft board shapes out before they are on the clock in the first round. If one of Quentin Johnston, Jordan Addison, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba are available, that is perhaps the best way for the Giants to utilize their first-round pick.
