What else did San Diego Wave add in the NWSL Draft?

During the draft, just like OL Reign, there was not much the club needed to do when it came to adding young talent. The Wave received the rights to 18-year-old forward Jaedyn Shaw from the Washington Spirit last season. Stoney selected two California kids among the club’s three picks, including the 2022 Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Sierra Engle.

Who knows how much Engle and the Wave’s newest draft selections are going to play, but at the end of the day, these players are only going to add some elite depth to a squad that is riddled with young talent. After the draft, and many weeks of free agency, it is difficult to put a nail on the current favorite to lift the title on November 11. Despite that, Stoney and the Wave came out firing in 2022, and with these new additions along with the growth of the current squad, San Diego has to be among the top contenders.
