Projected college basketball rankings after Alabama gets pasted by Oklahoma

The No. 2-ranked Alabama got torched in Norman in an upset loss to Oklahoma and now we have to check out the projected college basketball rankings.

On the heels of some chaotic results last week, there was an argument that Nate Oats’ Alabama Crimson Tide could’ve come in as the new No. 1 team in the latest college basketball rankings. They ended up just behind Purdue as the No. 2-ranked squad in the country. But that will change in the latest Top 25 after Saturday’s trip to Norman to face Oklahoma.

Despite the Sooners coming into the game at just 11-9 on the season, they looked far superior to Alabama from the jump. They forced the Crimson Tide into routine mistakes on both ends of the floor and always seemed to take advantage in order to build a double-digit halftime lead. And just when it looked like the Tide might find an answer early in the second half, Oklahoma tightened up and proceeded to blow out Bama.

The end result was a 93-69 blowout loss for Alabama and one that will surely drop them in the college basketball rankings. But how far? We have our latest projections.

  3. Tennessee Volunteers
  4. Arizona Wildcats
  5. Virginia Cavaliers
  6. Kansas State Wildcats
  7. Alabama Crimson Tide
  8. Texas Longhorns
  9. TCU Horned Frogs
  10. UCLA Bruins

Things have already gotten a bit crazy inside of the Top 10 of the college basketball rankings this week with Kansas State, UCLA and Kansas all having lost earlier in the week. On top of that, we also saw Iowa State and Xavier, two teams that could’ve climbed into that part of the rankings after all these losses, go down on Saturday.

Alabama getting worked by Oklahoma is going to hit them harder than it would’ve if it had been a close game. The Sooners are not a high-quality opponent based on resumé to this point in the season, so the Crimson Tide are surely dropping out of the Top 5.

That, of course, is just as things stand now. With a bevy of other Top 25 matchups still on the docket, particularly with more SEC/Big 12 Challenge games, it feels like the rankings could look wildly different when the AP Top 25 is released on Monday.
