3 49ers players who won’t be back for the 2023 season

Mike McGlinchey

The lasting image of Mike McGlinchey’s 2022 season might be Micah Parsons tossing him to the ground like a ragdoll in the Divisional Round. That highlight isn’t going to stop him from heading for a huge payday as a free agent this year.

The right tackle has played all five of his NFL seasons in San Francisco. It’s going to be very difficult to keep him there for a sixth and beyond.

That’s because his run blocking has been exceptional and there are plenty of teams out there who would relish the chance to add him to their offensive line.

A couple of years ago, the Saints gave Ryan Ramczyk a five-year deal worth $96 million. The Vikings gave Brian O’Neill $92.5 million over five years. On the open market, McGlinchey is going to be looking for something similar, if not a contract making him the highest-paid RT in the league.

The 49ers are already paying Trent Williams $23 million per year. Paying McGlinchey $19 million or so per year doesn’t seem viable.

It’ll be tough to see their former No. 9 overall pick walk, but that’s life in the NFL.
