Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. 2. 123. QB Coach. Philadelphia Eagles. Brian Johnson. player

Cowboys could use the mind and developmental skills of Brian Johnson

Much to their chagrin, Cowboys fans are more than familiar with both the Philadelphia Eagles and the recent rise of quarterback Jalen Hurts over the past two seasons. While head coach Nick Sirianni — a hated figure in the DFW these days — gets a ton of credit for that, it can’t go overlooked how much Brian Johnson has done for the development of his quarterback as well.

Despite being only 35 years old, the former Utah Utes quarterback has quite an extensive coaching resumé. He returned to his alma mater soon after his college playing career as a QBs coach and eventually the offensive coordinator. He’s also been on the staff at Mississippi State (QBs), Houston (OC) and Florida (QBs and OC) before joining Sirianni’s staff in Philadelphia.

When you look at the Eagles offense, though, the one thing that has aided the development of Hurts so greatly has been the positions that he’s put in consistently. He’s never asked to do too much or rarely put in poor overall positions. As such, that’s something that Johnson could undoubtedly bring to the Cowboys, Dak Prescott and so on.

Johnson has been a name to watch and there were some that expected him to even get head coaching interviews this offseason. Perhaps a jump to offensive coordinator could help him continue to be a name on the rise and Dallas should be interested in giving him that opportunity.

Plus, getting a little intel on the Eagles never hurt either.
