JJ Watt sent out a cryptic tweet that has some fans speculating about some big news on the horizon for the Houston Texans.

The Houston Texans are once again searching for another head coach, the third offseason in a row. After firing David Culley in one year, they hired Lovie Smith. After going 3-13-1, the organization opted to fire Smith. While interviewing numerous candidates early on in their offseason, it appears that they are closing in on their new head coach, and it is a familiar name for Texans fans. That is DeMeco Ryans, former 2006 second-round draft pick and current San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Ryans will meet with the Texans as early as Monday, and if it goes well, Ryans could be their new head coach by Tuesday or Wednesday.

Ryans’ former Texans teammate and recently retired defensive end JJ Watt sent out a tweet with a photo of himself and the current 49ers defensive coordinator. There was no caption in said tweet.

We must stress, nothing is known right now, as it is all speculation from fans. There’s no caption to go by, so the best thing we suggest doing is to wait and find out if anything does happen.

Watt spent the beginning of his career with the Texans as the 11th-overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. From there, he became not just the star of the franchise, but also the entire city of Houston. In his 10 years in Houston, Watt won the Defensive Player of the Year award three times, named First Team All-Pro five times, and made five trips to the Pro Bowl. Not to mention he won the Walter Payton Man of the Year award in 2017 for his work raising money for those affected by Hurricane Harvey.

After his 10th season, Watt signed with the Arizona Cardinals in 2021. Near the end of this season, Watt announced his retirement from the NFL. His final game arrived in Week 18 against the 49ers, where he recorded two sacks, bringing his career total to 114.5.

Ryans took over as 49ers defensive coordinator in 2021 after Robert Saleh left to become the head coach of the New York Jets. This season, the 49ers defense was statistically the best in terms of allowing the fewest total yards of offense (300.6) and points per game (16.3).

Texans fans can’t wait to see what happens in the coming days.
