Randall Cobb isn’t on the Packers if Aaron Rodgers isn’t around anymore

If we’re having a frank conversation about what Green Bay has done to try and appease Rodgers over the past few years, perhaps the most egregious example of that was bringing in wide receiver Randall Cobb after a few years away from the team he spent many previous years with.

The most plain way to say it is that Cobb hasn’t been the player he was for a long time. The last season in which he caught more than 50 passes and surpassed 500 yards, which he was doing like clockwork with Rodgers in the receiver’s prime, was back in 2019 with the Dallas Cowboys. Since then, it’s clear that he just doesn’t have it anymore.

Make no mistake, Green Bay has been short on receiving talent in recent years, particularly in the 2022 campaign in the wake of the Davante Adams trade. No matter what happens with Rodgers, that’s something that has to be addressed. But Cobb almost surely isn’t part of the solution.

If the quarterback were to stay, then it’s within reason to think that the Packers could bring Cobb back on a relatively cheap contract in order to make the signal-caller happy. If he leaves, though, it’s hard to imagine a world where the franchise deems him a vital part of the future or a rebuild.
