Teams that should steal Geno Smith from the Seahawks in free agency

New York Jets

How about a reunion?

The New York Jets were the team that originally gave Geno Smith the shot at his dream, and he spent four seasons with the team starting back when he was drafted in 2013.

This offseason, the Jets will be looking for a new starting quarterback. Mike White is a free agent and Zach Wilson appears as though his time is done, despite some conflicting rumors and reports.

It sounds funny, but the Jets are now a team that could be in win-now mode. They absolutely nailed their draft in 2022 and the talent they’ve put together, combined with the youth, all look ready to compete for a Super Bowl if they found the right quarterback under center.

Some might put Jimmy Garoppolo in New York, reuniting with Robert Salem from their time in San Francisco. But, another great veteran option could be Smith.

The Jets have a young, budding wide receiver in Garrett Wilson. They’ve got what looks to be a future star at running back in Breece Hall, as long as he’s able to come back healthy. Even the underrated and underutilized Jeremy Ruckert could have an emergence at tight end next season.

Smith is more than ready to lead a team like the Jets back into contention. What better way for his story to end than to make a title run with the team that drafted him?
