Keith Law MLB prospect rankings: Dodgers are clear winners

The Dodgers finished in the No. 1 slot in Law’s rankings, and for good reason. While Los Angeles left much to be desired this offseason, it’s in part because they’re grooming the next generation of Dodgers stars. Next winter, they’ll have the money necessary to chase the likes of Shohei Ohtani.

Los Angeles had eight players in Law’s top-100 prospects, which was easily the most of any team. The Dodgers’ strengths are up the middle talent, starting at catcher and ending in center field. It’s how any great organization should be built these days.

“They have outstanding depth in up-the-middle position players and hard-throwing pitchers who still project as starters. They placed eight players on my top 100, most of any team, and I’m fairly sure they would have had the most players if I’d gone another 25 or 50 or 100 names,” Law writes.

It’s a cliche these days to consider the Dodgers the best overall system in baseball, but only because it’s true. They have the best front office in MLB for a reason.

Keith Law MLB prospect rankings: Respect the Cubs

Jed Hoyer deserves more credit from fans than he often receives, if only because he’s stuck to his word. The Cubs took a few years off from NL Central contention in the hopes of a rapid system rebuild, and they’ve done just that. Chicago came in at No. 10 in Law’s rankings, and they could have arguably been higher.

Pete Crow-Armstrong should make some waves this season, and perhaps even debut at Wrigley. Kevin Alcantara is a player to watch, as well. And the Cubs secured some depth at pitcher — which they were lacking prior to the MLB Draft — by selecting Cade Horton. The future is bright in the Windy City.

Keith Law MLB prospect rankings: Pirates patience pays off

Pittsburgh’s brief postseason run feels like forever ago, but after back-to-back 100-loss seasons, the Bucs aren’t far off from their competitive window. O’Neil Cruz has paid off big time, and he’ll have time to mature into an MLB star as the next wave of Pirates prospects reach the professional level.

A number of top Pittsburgh prospects have been hurt of late, including former No. 1 overall pick Henry Davis, and infield prospect Nick Gonzalez. They have the top selection in this year’s draft, as well, which should only help them build upon their system strengths.
