Saints mock draft: Second-round selection is WR, Kayshon Boutte at 41 overall
Nick Underhill had the Saints reaching for Hendon Hooker at No. 41 overall in the second round. I don’t see it.
More likely is New Orleans adding one of the veteran QBs to their roster this offseason. Jimmy Garoppolo, Derek Carr, or, in an unlikely scenario: Aaron Rodgers.
Some sites have Hooker projected in the 80s. If the Saints are that interested, they can take a lunge at him later in the draft if he’s available, perhaps even packaging later picks to do so. More on that later.
Instead, the Saints could use a receiver. Kayshon Boutte out of LSU fits the bill. Boutte’s 735 yards in 2020 ranked him in the top 10 for receiving yards in the SEC, but he declined in total yardage the next two seasons.
Still, there’s a lot to like about Boutte. He’s speedy and athletic and would be a good complement to their 2021 WR pick, Chris Olave. Longtime receiver Michael Thomas’s time in New Orleans is over, and the Saints need to get fresher on this front for whoever is throwing the ball next year.
247Sports also points out that Boutte’s athleticism could make him an opportune piece on special teams as a return man. He returned five kicks throughout his time at LSU.
