Steelers who won’t be missed: Devin Bush

Devin Bush tore his achilles in his second season, and hasn’t been the same since. Bush is a former first-round pick out of Michigan and is a classic warning sign to any team thinking about drafting a linebacker that early.

Bush was undersized in college, and remained that way in the pros despite putting on some muscle. After suffering his catastrophic injury, Bush didn’t have the speed to make up for his lack of physicality. The Steelers declined his fifth-year option last offseason.

There is a case to be made for bringing Bush back given the lack of depth at the position in the NFL Draft. Pittsburgh historically doesn’t overpay in the free-agent market, and they would have to do just that for a replacement.

Considering the money the Steelers already have invested in this defense, they can’t afford to have a gaping hole at any level. Myles Jack is fine, but he can’t manage inside linebacker on his own. A replacement is in order — preferably one who can tackle on a consistent basis.
