Free agents Packers should happily let walk: Dean Lowry

After having a career year in 2021, the 2022 version of Dean Lowry showed he may have hit a wall in his development that removes him from the equation in Green Bay altogether.

After 3.0 and 5.0 sacks, respectively, in the previous two seasons, Lowry only put up half a sack in 2022. He had 26 quarterback pressures in 2020 and 2021 combined but just six in 2022 (and just one quarterback hurry all year).

PFF graded him a 59.3 in 2022 after he achieved a 67.0 in 2021.

Sure, he missed the final two games of the year, but he still had plenty of games to show up and prove his worth in. He failed to do so.

Lowry hasn’t been worth the ~$6.75+ million he’s been getting from Green Bay the last two seasons and it’s time for him to go.

The case to be made for re-signing Lowry is that his bummer of a 2022 campaign will probably put him at a more affordable price point compared to others available at the position in the open market. If the Packers truly think they can salvage something and emulate what he did in 2021 moving forward, there may be validity to bringing him back.

That’s not the argument we’re making here, though. Time to cut ties.
