Bryan Reynolds could join Christian Pulisic, Weston McKennie, Tyler Adams and Brenden Aaronson by moving to England to play his club football.

Reynolds currently plays for Westerlo in the Belgium Pro League. He is on loan from Italian club AS Roma but according to Tom Bogert, “England Championship sides Watford and Swansea City among clubs interested in American right back Bryan Reynolds.” Although Bogert goes on to say that “Westerlo hope to keep him on a permanent deal as well.”

For Westerlo this season, Reynolds has made 18 appearances, scoring once with three assists. He is a full-back who can play on either flank and at right midfield.

Any move to England will now have to take place in the summer as the transfer window closed on Jan. 31.

Bryan Reynolds’ career so far

Reynolds is from Texas and started his career at FC Dallas where he played 27 times in MLS and made five assists. He also spent time on loan at North Texas SC in USL League One.

His form in the USA earned him a move to Europe and he joined AS Roma. He has since played six times in Serie A for the side and once in the Europa Conference league. This match against Bodo/Glimt was a disaster as they lost 6-1. However, it was only a group-stage match Roma went on to win the tournament.

Reynolds was sent on loan to Kortrijk in Belgium last season and impressed enough for Westerlo to keep him on loan in the county for another season.

He has two caps for the U.S. men’s national team which came against Northern Ireland and Bosnia-Herzegovina. Although, he has not played for the USMNT since December 2021.

Should he join Watford or Swansea?

Of the two teams in England that Reynolds is linked with, Watford is the most likely to get promoted back to the Premier League. The Hornets are currently fifth in the division, so they occupy a play-off position for a chance to get back to the top flight.

Swansea is 13th in the Championship but they are just five points off the play-off places, so they have an outside chance of making it.

For Reynolds, it may be beneficial for him to experience playing in the Championship before the Premier League, as he will likely get more game time.

Playing in England will be a big step up from what he is used to in Belgium. However, he has played in Serie A before. If he is to stay with Roma then he must make sure that theirs a route for him to get back into their first team.

Reynolds is just 21 years old, so needs to find a club where he can develop to be a regular starter for the USMNT. It is an exciting time for US soccer with the country co-hosting the 2026 World Cup. Reynolds will be hoping that he is back in the fold for the national team for this home tournament.
