The Broncos secondary was supposed to be a huge strength going into the season. That was one of the few things that actually worked out. Patrick Surtain II worked out swimmingly. Ronald Darby was supposed to be a big piece in that secondary, but he tore his ACL in Week 5. The Broncos allowed the fifth-fewest yards per attempt without Darby entirely.

Darby is going to be a hard contract to move. Coming off an injury like that at 29 years old, most teams would be worried about taking a shot on him. However, it’s worth shopping him. Teams make interesting moves every offseason. Darby is still incredibly talented despite being expensive.

If the Broncos don’t trade Darby, there’s a good chance they could cut him. Are teams just going to wait until Darby comes a lot cheaper? The trade would likely come to a team that has no chance of signing Darby. Think about a team like the Raiders or another team with many question marks surrounding them. It will be hard to convince a team to take Darby when he has the injury history and contract that pays him north of $12 million. Still, the Broncos have to try.

Darby’s talent could convince a team to make a move. Maybe it happens after free agency if a team misses out on James Bradberry or Jonathan Jones. Either way, the Broncos should be calling right now.
