The Cardinals should sign Michael Wacha

The Cards have had some recent success in bringing back former players. While Michael Wacha isn’t on the level of Albert Pujols, it would still be a signing that would tug at the heartstrings of Cardinal fans who wanted nothing more than to see him succeed.

Wacha was drafted by the Cardinals in 2012 and made his major league debut in 2013. He spent seven seasons with the club, earning NLCS MVP honors in 2013, was an All-Star in 2015, and played for the Mets in 2020, the Rays in 2021, and Red Sox in 2022.

Wacha has not found a team for 2023, and the Cardinals could use a veteran pitcher to throw strikes and eat innings as a starter or in long relief. During his time with the team, Wacha was close to Wainwright and would no doubt love the opportunity to play alongside him in his final season.

The Cardinals should sign Wacha to an incentive-laden contract with an option for another season.
