3 Texas football recruits who can help Arch Manning bring the Longhorns back
Cedric Baxter Jr. will be a star to bolster the Texas run game behind Arch Manning
You could make the agrument that Texas football hasn’t always been a consistent quarterback factory and, more importantly, that they’ve rarely (if ever) had someone in the building outside of Vince Young who is on the level of Arch Manning. However, the Longhorns have made a habit out of their elite running back talent.
Whether it’s been Ricky Williams, Cedric Benson, or even most recently Bijan Robinson, among a litany of others, there is a rich tradition in Austin when it comes to running backs and being a dominant part of the offense. And now 5-star running back Cedric Baxter Jr. will be looked upon to become the next player in that elite lineage.
Baxter was immensely productive in the second-highest class of Florida high school football, a state loaded with talent. He rushed for 26 touchdowns and 8.3 yards per carry as a junior at Edgewater and it’s not hard to see why when you see a player at 6-foot-1, 215 pounds moving as fast and decisively as he does.
Once Manning takes over for Ewers, there’s no doubt that the passing offense is going to be in full focus. But it sure makes the passing game a lot easier whenever there’s a top-notch run game to complement it. Baxter can help bring that to Texas and, even better, he has pass-catching upside to contribute in that facet of the game as well.
