Atlanta Falcons’ offseason move – Re-sign OT Kaleb McGary

Every Falcons fan will be screaming that the team’s top priority should be to get a long-term quarterback and that should also be on Atlanta’s to-do list. One of the best ways to become an attractive destination for a star quarterback is to build a strong offensive line, making the retention of McGary a must for Atlanta.

A former first-round pick out of Washington, McGary has emerged as one of the best right tackles in the league. McGary was a tremendous asset to the Falcons’ strong running game, a staple of Arthur Smith’s playbook, and developed well as a pass blocker this season as well.

The free agent market always pays handsomely for quality linemen and the 27-year-old McGary will get a huge contract. The good thing for the Falcons is that they have nearly $60 million in salary cap room, more than enough to re-sign McGary and still add to their roster in other areas.

Expect Atlanta to try and re-sign McGary prior to the start of free agency to avoid having to use the franchise tag. Maintaining continuity on the offensive line with an ascending player like McGary is important as the Falcons look to take advantage of a weak NFC South next season.
