Miami Dolphins’ offseason move – Sign OG Dalton Risner

The foundation that Mike McDaniel built in his first season in Miami was a good one as the Dolphins got off to an 8-3 start. Things fell apart down the stretch as Miami limped into the playoffs at 9-8 before losing to the Buffalo Bills on Super Wild Card Weekend with rookie Skylar Thompson under center.

A big area of need for Miami is to continue upgrading its offensive line, a process they began last winter by signing Terron Armstead to play left tackle. The interior of the line was still a soft spot, which the Dolphins could upgrade by making a play to sign Dalton Risner away from the Denver Broncos.

Risner is an ascending player who put together his best season entering his walk year. The Broncos are unlikely to use the franchise tag on a guard, meaning Risner should be free to solicit offers from other teams, including Miami.

The lingering concern over Tua Tagovailoa’s long-term health after he suffered three concussions during the season means upgrading the line is a must. Signing Risner makes a ton of sense for the Dolphins, who should act quickly to get a deal done.
