Buffalo Bills’ offseason move – Upgrade the running back position

There were a lot of issues in Buffalo down the stretch but a big part of the team’s regression was due to their lack of a true running game. Cold weather games in Buffalo actually were a disadvantage for the Bills, who got pushed around by the Cincinnati Bengals in the Divisional Round and nearly blew a huge lead to the Miami Dolphins on Super Wild Card weekend.

The Bills’ current running back room is set for an overhaul as Devin Singletary is set to become a free agent while Nyheim Hines will likely be cut to save about $5 million on the salary cap. Pairing a more complete early-down back with James Cook would make the most sense for Buffalo.

The good news for GM Brandon Beane is that the free agent market is littered with talented options out of the backfield. Saquon Barkley and Josh Jacobs are the headliners but Kareem Hunt, Jamaal Williams, Miles Sanders, Raheem Mostert and Tony Pollard are also good options.

That litany of talent should create a buyer’s market for Buffalo, who might get a quality player on a discount as they offer a clear shot at Super Bowl contention. Creating more offensive balance is paramount for the Bills, who got too reliant on Josh Allen’s improvisational skills down the stretch.
