Cleveland Browns’ offseason move – Find another receiver for Deshaun Watson

The Browns have made their long-term bet at quarterback with Watson, who looked predictably rusty after missing nearly two full years of football in 2022. A full offseason program and training camp should help Watson get up to speed in 2023 but Cleveland needs to find a way to improve his weaponry.

Amari Cooper had a solid year as the Browns’ No. 1 receiver and Donovan Peoples-Jones flashed some potential as a complementary piece. No other receiver on Cleveland’s depth chart posed much of a threat to opposing defenses, however, allowing teams to focus more on slowing down Nick Chubb and the running game.

This need will be tricky for the Browns to fill since they don’t have their first round pick, which is going to Houston in the Watson trade, and the free-agent receiver class is very thin talent-wise. Since a reunion with Odell Beckham Jr is highly unlikely, the best option Cleveland has is to grab a pass catcher in the second round.

Some intriguing pass-catchers who could be available at 43 include Boston College’s Zay Jones, North Carolina’s Josh Downs, Tennessee’s Jalin Hyatt and SMU’s Rashee Rice. Expect the Browns to do their homework on the college receiving class and grab the player who is the best fit for their offensive scheme.
