Eagles: 3 players who will never get another shot at a Super Bowl
By Kristen Wong
1. Jason Kelce
Jason Kelce’s seasons in Philadelphia are numbered, and this Super Bowl matchup — one against his own brother, no less — could give the center one hell of a way to go out.
Drafted in the sixth round back in 2011, Kelce has already won one Super Bowl along with countless league awards. The ultimate dream ending, however, would be to defeat his brother, Travis Kelce, and hoist the Lombardi Trophy for the second and likely last time.
Last offseason, Kelce was already thinking about retirement before deciding to come back on a one-year, $14 million deal, the highest figure of any center in the NFL. That just goes to show how much Philly respects and needs Kelce, and so far this year, the 35-year-old has proved he can still throw his weight against the best. But everything comes at a cost.
A year ago, Kelce opened up on the “New Heights with Jason & Travis Kelce” podcast and told listeners that his body was starting to fall apart. He apparently had to undergo surgery at the beginning of training camp last year, and if he decides to return for 2023, he would be entering his 13th year in the league. Only three players since 1960 have played 13 or more seasons in Philadelphia.
Already inked in the books as one of the greatest Eagles players of all time, Kelce will have to think long and hard about whether he wants to keep subjecting his body to the relentless, every day grind.
If Kelce wins his second ring this year, he may be satisfied with getting that sweet, long-awaited cherry on the sundae and finally call an end to his legendary career.
