Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin and the doctors and training staff that saved his life were honored ahead of Super Bowl 57.

On the Week 17 edition of Monday Night Football, the NFL world was keeping their eyes peeled for updates on Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin, who suffered cardiac arrest. He entered University of Cincinnati Medical Center in critical condition, and with each passing day, Hamlin improved. H eventually was discharged from the hospital and was able to return to Buffalo.

Ahead of Super Bowl 57, the NFL honored the doctors and members of the Bills and Cincinnati Bengals training staffs who helped Hamlin on and off the field as he recovered from his medical scare. Shortly afterwards, Hamlin joined them on the field, and he embraced those who helped him.

Hamlin entered UC Medical Center needing help breathing with a breathing tube. As the days progressed, doctors and nurses removed the tube, and Hamlin was able to eventually move his hands and feet. The first question that Hamlin asked when speaking with doctors was “did we win?” As in, did the Bills win over the Cincinnati Bengals in that game.

Eventually, Hamlin was discharged and returned to Buffalo. After undergoing medical evaluations and cardiac, vascular, and neurological testing at Buffalo General Medical Center/Gates Vascular Institute, Hamlin was cleared to return home.

Hamlin announced a partnership with the American Heart Association to raise awareness for CPR.

This past Wednesday, Hamlin received the NFL Player’s Association’s Alan Page Community Award, which “annually recognizes one player who goes above and beyond to perform community service in his team city and/or hometown.” On Thursday, Hamlin and the medical professionals who saved his life were honored on stage.
