Would the Braves ever trade Ronald Acuña? Alex Anthopoulos knows better

Another day, another ridiculous trade rumor.

This time, it was suggested that the Atlanta Braves would consider trading away superstar outfielder Ronald Acuña. This, of course, goes against the very grain of what the Braves are trying to accomplish.

Atlanta’s core is signed long-term and to very favorable contracts, including Acuña. Even with his recent string of injuries, he is one of the best outfielders in the National League. For the most part, Atlanta’s postseason success hinges on his health.

Rolling the dice is better than taking him out of the lineup altogether.

Yes, that original tweet went viral. Meanwhile, David O’Brien’s calculated response has not.

Braves front office gets even more praise

It’s been a busy couple of offseasons for the Braves. First, they let Freddie Freeman walk in what could prove to be a franchise-altering decision. This winter, Dansby Swanson left for the Chicago Cubs.

Nonetheless, one former MLB executive thinks that was unquestionably the right call.

“There is no way that Swanson can play better than what he’s currently getting paid,” David Samson said. “And if you stick by that philosophy and try to get overperformance by players versus their contracts, you’re going to win more than you’re going to lose, and Alex has been really good at doing that.”

At this point, it’s very clear to those in the know that Alex Anthopoulos understands what he’s doing. Do not question the man, at least not yet.
