The Bad: The Chicago Sky

Oh boy.

Candace Parker: GONE. Courtney Vandersloot: GONE. Azurá Stevens: GONE. Emma Meeseman is unsigned and unrestricted. Compound all this with Allie Quigley announcing that she won’t participate in the 2023 WNBA season and you’ve nearly lost your starting lineup from 2022.

Your next move after that is to sign Courtney Williams who does not fill a need on a team that has Kahleah Copper. You aren’t going to be better after losing players of the caliber of Parker, Sloot, Stevens, Quigley and potentially Meeseman, but you should be focusing your free agency elsewhere. Bolstering your front court, finding a playmaker, and adding a shooter all to compliment Copper should have been the pivot in Chicago, not bringing in somewhat of a replica.

Elizabeth Williams is a nice depth piece, as is Astou Ndour-Fall, but as of today, it’s likely that one of them will be the starting center on this team which is a bit concerning.

Isabelle Harrison is a nice addition and should have come first, followed by the addition of a starting caliber big, but now you have Williams taking up 11 percent of the max salary cap and little wiggle room on a limited roster.
