The team was coming off a playoff appearance in 2021, but the Patriots received their share of criticism for replacing Josh McDaniels with assistants Matt Patricia and Joe Judge. The former would handle play-calling duties and the offense took some steps backward.

Bill Belichick’s club stayed in the playoff chase via an opportunistic defense. The Pats could have clinched a wild card berth with a win at Buffalo in Week 18 but came up short.

During his first three seasons with the franchise, head coach Matt LaFleur won the NFC North each year and owned a 39-10 regular-season record. In 2022, the Packers finished third in their division and owned a dismal 8-9 record.

The team still had a chance to reach the playoffs if they could beat the Lions at Lambeau Field in the final regular-season game of ’22 and Aaron Rodgers and company failed to take advantage of Detroit’s shaky defense.

The end finally came for veteran quarterback Tom Brady, despite the fact that the Buccaneers won the NFC South, albeit with an 8-9 record. The team’s 10th loss came in a lopsided 31-14 setback to the Cowboys in the NFC Wild Card Playoffs.

After finishing second in the league in scoring in 2021, Tampa’s offensive unit totaled 30 fewer touchdowns this season. Offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich was fired after four seasons with the franchise.
