Free agents the Chicago Bears should happily let leave: Sam Mustipher, C

If there is one free agent the Bears absolutely, positively, cannot re-sign, it’s center Sam Mustipher. Bears fans have long-desired Mustipher to get the boot, but for some reason, he’s remained the team’s starting center. He might also be the worst starting center in all of football.

If I had a dollar for every time I saw Mustipher turning his head to try and find work, while Justin Fields was obliterated in the backfield, I might have been able to afford a Super Bowl ticket.

Exaggerations aside, Mustipher is by far and away the worst starting lineman on this team, and that’s saying something. In the past two seasons, Mustipher has been credited with seven fumbled snaps — seven!

The Bears have to get a better pass blocker at the position. It doesn’t matter what some outlets will say about his run-blocking. Mustipher gets Fields killed on a regular basis, and that cannot continue to happen.

Whether it’s via free agency or at some point in the draft, there will be plenty of opportunities for the Bears to upgrade this position. Mustipher cannot, and quite frankly will not be allowed back at Halas Hall. You can book it.
