Despite pitchers and catchers reporting to spring training, the baseball offseason continues to churn. Here’s the breakdown of two recent free-agent deals.

Pitchers and catchers have reported to spring training, but that hasn’t stopped transactions from happening. There are numerous free agents still on the board, mostly of the minor-league variety, and teams continue to explore those markets.

Right-hander Michael Wacha has agreed to a complex contract with the San Diego Padres, sources say, though the deal is still pending a physical.

Wacha is expected to bring a stable, veteran presence to the Padres rotation. A.J. Preller added Wacha just days after signing Yu Darvish to a contract extension, thus answering many rotation questions for San Diego long-term.

MLB news: David Peralta, Andrew Chafin sign

Veteran outfielder David Peralta agreed to a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Reliever Andrew Chafin surprisingly signed a one-year contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks and already appears a strong candidate to be dealt at the 2023 trade deadline. Here’s a statistical breakdown of both players:

  • David Peralta 2022 stats: 248/.316/.460 with 12 home runs and 41 RBIs in 87 games for the Diamondbacks, .255/.317/.335 with 18 RBIs in 47 games with the Rays
  • Andrew Chafin 2022 stats: 64 outings, 2.83 ERA and 1.169 WHIP with the Detroit Tigers

Here’s a breakdown of Peralta and Chafin’s contracts, according to sources.
