NFL rumors: Vikings should cut LB Eric Kendricks

This one seems a little more obvious, but Eric Kendricks actually might survive. Minnesota hired Brian Flores as their new defensive coordinator, and Kendricks makes sense in his system. He’s a thriving middle linebacker who was once at the top of his position.

See, here’s the problem. Kendricks isn’t the same linebacker he used to be. He had a rough season in 2022, despite still putting up very good counting stats (137 tackles, eight tackles for loss, six passes defended). His coverage ability dropped considerably, and that led to teams throwing all over the Vikings. They allowed the second-most passing yards and the most passing first downs in the NFL. Kendricks’ inability definitely didn’t help.

This isn’t a case of a player falling off completely. Kendricks is still a worthy starter. However, it’s the reality of the situation. The Vikings can save $9.5 million on the salary cap with a post-June 1 cut.

With a Thielen and Kendricks cut, the Vikings are now at around the salary cap. With some roster restructuring, they can make the right moves and give Justin Jefferson a new contract.
