Julius Randle made his son cry during terrible 3-point shootout performance

New York Knicks forward Julius Randle had a bad showing in the NBA’s 3-point contest on Saturday, and it made his son Kyden upset.

The New York Knicks have forward Julius Randle representing them in the 2023 NBA All-Star Game. Not only was Randle set to play in the All-Star Game, but he was also revealed to be a participant in the 3-point contest. Randle was set to replace Portland Trail Blazers guard Anfernee Simons was ruled out due to a grade 2 right ankle sprain.

On Saturday night, Randle was one of eight participants looking to get into the final round. But in his first round showing, he only managed to score 13 points. That effectively eliminated him from the contest.

Randle’s son, Kyden, was in the crowd in Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah, watching his dad participate in the 3-point competition. TNT cameras cut to Kyden’s reaction in the stands, and he was visibly upset.

Kyden obviously was hoping his dad would win the contest.

Randle was looking to become the first left-handed shooter to win the 3-point competition. While he did put up just 13 points, that was not the lowest score of the first-round. That distinction belongs to Sacramento Kings guard Kevin Huerter, who put up just eight points.

The three players who made it to the finals were Damian Lillard of the Trailblazers, and Buddy Hield and Tyrese Haliburton of the Indiana Pacers. In the final round, Hield set the mark with 26 points, and it was up to Lillard to surpass that to win the competition. Lillard won on his final shot, a two-point money ball shot.

Entering the All-Star break, Randle is averaging 24.8 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 4.1 assists while shooting 46.0-percent from the field and 33.8-percent from the three-point line.

Randle will participate in the All-Star Game on Sunday, Feb. 19 at 8:00 p.m. ET.
