Scouting Report. CB. Jalen Ramsey. 1. player. 60. Pick Analysis. Minnesota Vikings

A Jalen Ramsey trade would be a gift for new Vikings DC Brian Flores

Earlier this offseason, the Vikings front office listened to an angry fanbase and fired defensive coordinator Ed Donatell. After a relatively extensive search for his replacement, they seemingly struck gold as they hired former Steelers assistant and Dolphins head coach Brian Flores to fill the vacancy.

The problem now is that Flores has a lot of work to do moving forward into his new job. This is a defense that was one of the worst in the league against the pass this past season, despite ending the regular season with 13 wins (though most people called that fraudulent). Cornerback has been an issue as, despite investments to address the need, they haven’t seen the returns they’d want overall from guys like Andrew Booth Jr. and Cameron Dantzler, at least not yet.

Now, it’s worth noting that the Vikings would have to do the most work in order to make a Jalen Ramsey trade work. Minnesota is currently more than $23 million over the cap as they come into the offseason. With various cuts and restructures, though — specifically with guys like Kirk Cousins, Adam Thielen, Eric Kendricks and Za’Darius Smith, among others — they can get well under that number.

As such, they can’t be overlooked. A new defensive coordinator means a new look for the defense and it’s clearly a unit that needs wholesale changes this offseason. If they see some key pieces leave to save cap space, then perhaps they can rebound by aggressively addressing the need at cornerback and trading with the Rams for Ramsey.
