Braves news: Atlanta invited Chipper Jones back to spring training for a reason. He’s already given young shortstop Vaughn Grissom some important advice.

Chipper Jones is a Hall of Famer and one of the best third basemen of all-time. He won an MVP, World Series, batting title, two silver sluggers and was selected to the NL All-Star team eight times. That’s a ton of accolades.

Jones was invited back to spring training by manager Brian Snitker, and plays an advisory role for the Atlanta front office and Alex Anthopoulos. This spring, however, he’s helping out however he can, including with budding young shortstop Vaughn Grissom.

Braves news: Chipper Jones has sound advice for Vaughn Grissom

Chipper was asked in a radio interview exactly how the organization plans to help along Grissom in his development as a big-league player. His answer was a good one:

"“It will be similar to what we did with Austin Riley, making sure his [Vaughn Grissom] base swing is up the middle and the other way. And the ball that he hits out of the ballpark will be hanging sliders and hanging changeups. I don’t want him cheating on fastballs to the left side. I want him staying inside,” Jones said. “Chances are he’s probably going to be hitting down in the lineup. He’s good enough to set the table for the top of the lineup, and he can turn that lineup over. He can run. He can steal bags. I mean he can do a lot of things. There’s a reason why he wasn’t playing at the end of the year, and we got to get him back to being a tough out.”"

When a Hall of Famer tells you to do something, you ought to listen. Grissom, who is fighting with Orlando Arcia for the starting shortstop job on the 2023 Braves, will take all the advice he can get.
