MLB news: Braves stars Ronald Acuña Jr., Spencer Strider go head-to-head
In what has been a wild offseason for Ronald Acuña Jr. after his exploits and exit from the Venezuelan Winter League in addition to his back-and-forth decision on playing for Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic, heâs now at Braves Spring Training before he heads off to the WBC in a couple of weeks.
On Wednesday, that meant a head-to-head matchup with the teamâs young emerging ace, Spencer Strider. So letâs take a look and read way too much into one at-bat between the superstar outfielder and the budding superstar hurler.
Welp. Looks like Acuña is going to hit sub-.200 this season while Strider might win the NL Cy Young in his second season. Thatâs how youâre supposed to overreact to a clip like that, right?
In all seriousness, thereâs probably nothing meaningful to glean from the matchup that we saw from the Atlanta stars on Wednesday. However, it is a fun little clip to see Stache and Gas stair down Acuña and get him out of the box on only four pitches. Itâs extremely early in camp, but it seems like the righty is already rounding into form with his nasty stuff.
