With Aaron Rodgers’ future in Green Bay up in the air, there is one free agent quarterback who would like to join the Packers.

The Green Bay Packers, much like the rest of the NFL, are awaiting quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ decision. Even when he returns from his “darkness retreat,” it’s still unknown when he will make a decision regarding where he wants to play in 2023, if at all.

If Rodgers were to decide to play for another team, then it would be the beginning of the Jordan Love era. But, could another quarterback enter Green Bay?

During an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” during the week of Super Bowl 57, Washington Commanders quarterback Taylor Heinicke was asked about potential landing destinations for him, as he is a free agent entering the 2023 league year. While stressing that he wasn’t going to name any teams, he brings up one organization in particular — the Packers.

“Obviously I would love to go to the Packers, that’s been a childhood dream of mine, playing for the Packers” said Heinicke.

In that same clip above, Heinicke said that he would love to be starting, but says that being a backup quarterback is “probably one of the best jobs in America.”

Heinicke returned to the NFL in 2020 after a short stint with the XFL’s St. Louis Battlehawks. While he didn’t start for the entire season, he did get an opportunity in the playoffs, where he shined in the team’s Wild Card Round loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Heinicke became the team’s starting quarterback in 2021 but saw his role reduced at the start of the 2022 season due to the trade of Carson Wentz. Heinicke led the team to five wins and into playoff position this past campaign but was benched in the team’s Week 16 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

This past season, Heinicke threw for 1,859 yards, 12 touchdowns and six interceptions while completing 62.2 percent of his passes.

In his three years with Washington, Heinicke recorded 5,415 passing yards, 33 touchdowns, and 21 interceptions on a 64.0 completion percentage. As a starter, Heinicke had a 12-11-1 record.

While Heinicke said that he would love to play for the Packers, he is keeping his playing options open ahead of the 2023 season.
