1 trade the Miami Marlins want to take back: Miguel Cabrera

Who in their right mind would trade a future Hall of Famer? To be fair, almost every team on this list, at one time or another, has traded away a future Hall of Famer. It just so happens that the Miami Marlins have been synonymous with salary dumps and trades over the years.

But after signing Miguel Cabrera in 1999 as a teenager out of Venezuela, perhaps it would have behooved the Fish to hang on to Miggy a little longer. Cabrera made his debut in 2003 and who could forget his first-inning home run against Roger Clemens in Game 4 of the World Series?

Cabrera went to four consecutive All-Star Games while a member of the Marlins organization and won two Silver Sluggers while also finishing in the Top 5 of the NL MVP votes twice. But that wasn’t enough to keep Cabrera in South Beach.

The Marlins traded Miggy to the Detroit Tigers during the 2007-2008 offseason, and the rest is history. Cabrera would go on to appear in eight more All-Star Games, capture four AL batting titles, and win the AL MVP on two separate occasions.

The Miami Marlins have made a lot of questionable trades in the past, but dealing future Hall of Famer Miguel Cabrera is certainly one they’d like to have back.
