1 trade the Milwaukee Brewers want to take back: Gary Sheffield

Gary Sheffield is a name that most MLB fans probably associate with the New York Yankees, perhaps even the Miami Marlins. But before Sheffield headed to south Florida or the Big Apple, he made his home in Milwaukee.

Sheffield actually made his MLB debut as a teenager in 1988, playing 24 games while occupying the shortstop position. However, things didn’t go too smoothly between Sheffield and the organization in the years that followed.

Some behind-the-scenes disputes between Sheffield and the organization led to a trade prior to the start of the 1992 season. Sheffield would make the first of nine All-Star appearances that year after being dealt to the San Diego Padres.

Sheffield’s career lasted 22 seasons and he played for eight different organizations. Sheffield was a perennial MVP candidate, finishing in the Top 3 on three occasions during his major league career. The Brewers probably wish they were able to make things work with Sheffield rather than shipping him to Souther California just four years into his career.
