NBA Power Rankings Tier 5: Suffering from Success

Teams in this DJ Khaled-inspired tier have far exceeded their preseason expectations. Their young players are developing into impactful pieces. Concurrently, they have hurt their odds to land a top-three draft pick.

Utah Jazz

The Jazz are one of the most fun teams in the NBA. Lauri Markkanen is an All-Star. Rookie Walker Kessler is fifth in the league in blocks (2.1). After trading away Mike Conley, Malik Beasley, and Jarred Vanderbilt, the Jazz still managed to come away with wins over the Toronto Raptors and Indiana Pacers. The future is looking bright in Utah.

Oklahoma City Thunder

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is a superstar. He is averaging 30.8 points per game. When SGA is on the floor, the Thunder are outscoring opponents by 7.1 points per 100 possessions. With Chet Holmgren set to return next season, the Thunder could be a contender sooner than expected.
