NFL Draft: 10 best wide receivers available in 2023
By KC Proctor
1. Zay Flowers, Boston College
Zay Flowers is the truth. He was a massive contributor to Boston College’s offense since he showed up in 2019 and is in the same tier of career production as Josh Downs and Jordan Addison. In four years, Flowers accrued over 3,000 receiving yards and totaled 29 touchdowns. He had 1,077 yards and 12 touchdowns as a senior and shows up absolutely everywhere on tape. On five separate occasions, he scored multiple TDs and compiled 100+ yards this past year. He makes leaving D1 corners in the dust look entirely too easy and routinely catches passes that most dream of hauling in.
Weight was the only concern about Zay as a prospect heading into the draft cycle, but he shut that down quickly on his own. He was a standout at Shrine Bowl practices and weighed in at 182 pounds — 10 pounds heavier than he was listed at BC — during his all-star week. He moved every bit as well with the added weight as he did all year. He didn’t play in the game, and there was little reason for him to do so. He put together very convincing workouts and replicated his season’s work in front of the Patriots staff who was coaching the East squad.
The Pats pick at number 14 on April 27 and it should surprise literally no one if Belichick sprints to the podium with Zay Flowers’ name.
