No signs of slowing down for Alex Morgan

What more can you say about Alex Morgan? The two-time FIFA World Cup champion looks destined to be in the starting XI for the USWNT  this July. The 33-year-old started all three contests of the SheBelieves Cup, collecting two assists to go along with a world-class strike to open up the scoring against Brazil. At an age where many may see some sort of decline in output, Morgan has been a leader and one of the most clinical finishers on the US and in the NWSL.

Morgan puts up a goal of the year candidate two months into 2023:

Morgan was able to put a controversial call behind her to find a way past the goalkeeper the next moment she had an opportunity at goal. In 2022, Morgan managed four goals to go along with one assist, but just two months into the new year, the San Diego Wave striker has collected two goals and two assists in just four matches played. She was active all game, holding up play, being an option for through balls behind, and passes from out wide. With her goal against Brazil, Morgan passes Joy Fawsett for the most goals in USWNT history after becoming a mother.

Women have the ability to perform at a high level and have a family at the same time. Morgan embodies that as she continues to inspire the next generation of women professional athletes. Morgan did not feature in Andonovski’s side during last year’s SheBelieves Cup as he looked to provide the younger generation a chance to demonstrate what they can do. She may be a veteran, but she has a lot of her prime left.

There are three names that the coaching staff for the U.S. should put down first when forming the starting XI, and Morgan without question is one of them. With her World Cup pedigree, Morgan is prepared to lead the U.S. up front as the defending champions seek to make it three World Cups in a row.
